What to See in Chamba

Tehri Dam

The dam has been built on the confluence of the two rivers-River Bhagirathi and River Bhilangna and is about 15 kms away. Tehri Lake has been formed at this place and the place offers beautiful views of the two merging rivers. The dam is quite important for North India for its electricity generation and irrigation purposes. The depth of the reservoir for the dam is more than a kilometer.

New Tehri Town

The New Tehri town is accredited to be the earliest premeditated town in India. The entire town of Tehri was submerged to construct a reservoir for the Tehri dam. Thus, a new town was established to rehabilitate the villages which were removed to build a reservoir. Indeed, New Tehri is regarded as Asia’s most extensive and flourishing rehabilitation program. The elegant township has developed into a divine exquisite hill station.

Raghunath Temple

Raghunathji temple is considered to be one of the most sacred sites in the town and it is about 10,000 years old. But, a massive earthquake in the year 1803 destroyed the temple which was later reconstructed and renovated with the help of Scindias.
