Bedni and Ali Bugyals Trek In Uttarakhand
The great Himalayas have always inspired man to explore its heights and the beauty spread all around there. Bedni and Ali Bugyals serve as one of the most romantic spots in the lap of Himalayas. There are meadows spread as far as you can see. The proud mountains standing and a steep ridge holding its head high to touch the clouds. To crown it all there is a magnificent flank of western Trishul. Bedni is amongst the larger Bugyals (meadows). It is a major way-station to the Nanda Raj Yatra (a ritual procession held in every 12 years). The place is greatly significant. Ideal season to trek Bedni and Ali Bugyals: It is during monsoons or from June to September.
Location of Bedni and Ali Bugyals: The geographical location is between the Bedni Ganga and Kali Ganga in Chamoli.
Trekking in Bedni and Ali Bugyals
Day 1
- Lohajang – Wan
- Distance: 10 kms.
- Time: 5-6 hours
- Level: Easy
From the pass at Lohajang, a road heads north to wan. It hugs the valley’s western side and descends into it. An ascent follows which takes you to a good camping site from where the path from Bekhal Tal to Wan pops up. About 7 kms. out of Lohajung there is a pasture land. This path takes you to the Wan Forest Rest House. In its vicinity you can camp. If you want to go on, climb on the ridge above Wan and camp in the breath-taking view of Mother Nature.
Day 2
- Wan – Bedni
- Distance: 8 kms.
- Time: 4-6 hours
- Level: Difficult
From the ridge above Wan, the path turns back from north-east to north-west. Then it descends the eastern hill side. After completing this path you will reach a glen, watered by Bedni Ganga. From the river, you climb to a flowery place. Move to south. A higher climb awaits for you. Here, turn west. Behind the cliffs to your north – east lies the Bedni pasture. The path here takes you to a meadow descending from Trishul snow and Nanda Ghunti and into the valleys to west. Camp at shepherd’s huts.
Day 3
- Bedni – Ali- Bedni
- Distance: 10 kms.
- Time: 4 hours
- Level: Easy
Climbing out of Bedni will give you a sight of Ali (3300 m) in south-west. A trip from Bedni can take you there.
Day 4
- Bedni – Lohajang
- Distance: 20 kms.
- Time: 7-8 hours
- Level: Moderate
Move back to the populated places.

You may start with a climb to Bekhal Tal. It is an immaculate lake which is set in a meadow. The meadow lies north-west of the Lohajang Pass at a distance of 8 kms.
