Travel and Tourism in India
Chamba, a magnificent hill station is a huge favorite amongst voyagers because of its natural beauty. It is an unfamiliar, untouched lesser explored, serene hill town situated in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttaranchal. Sited on the intersection of roads leading from Mussoorie, Rishikesh,
Tehri and New Tehri, the town is located on the banks of River Bhagirathi and offers magnificent vistas of the splendid valley. Chamba is an ideal tourist destination during summers because of its altitude which is about 1676 meters. The weather is sub-tropical with pleasant summers and very cold winters but one can easily wander during the day time round the year. Temperature ranges from 4-20 degree Celsius during winters and one requires heavy woolens during this time of year while in summers the temperature remains between 15-30 degree Celsius and cotton clothes are a must. It is really a good place to relax, unwind and enjoy the scenic splendor and panoramic vistas of the valley. One can spot frost covered peaks of the inner Himalayas on one side and the delightful views of River Bhagirathi on the other side.
The quaint town of Chamba lies beyond the superseding mountain ranges, tedious passes and snow clad cliffs. The place is thronged by people from around the world all-round the year due to its untainted beauty, mountain topography and bucolic community.
One may find exposed & desolated valley, twisty, winding terrains and bright landscape around the town. Dense and thick deodar and pine forests, a series of apple and apricot orchards and varied shades of rhododendrons all combined together create a mystic aura.
Chamba has gained more popularity due to its proximity to another beautiful hill station- Mussoorie which is about 50 kms away from the town. Due to its tranquility and exquisite beauty, the place has become a favorite destination amongst voyagers. It is a boon in disguise for true nature lovers who want to explore the environment in its pristine form. Celestial and unsurpassed beauteousness of the town, the sleepy countryside, blushing ravines, rushing gorges, flowing canyons and the refreshing and vitalizing views of the Himalayas collectively forms a tempting option for a weekend getaway. It is a perfect holiday retreat to relax and unwind from the hectic life of the metropolitan cities. The only traffic one finds on the roads of Chamba is the herds of goats wandering around with the cowboys.
Chamba was initially a part of the Gorkha Kingdom but later the place was ruled by the Kings of Garhwal. The place possesses rich cultural background and people here follow the customs and traditions of Garhwali’s only. The town has enclosed within itself the magnificence of numerous mores and civilizations, which remains hidden and uncharted by the rest of the world.
Due to its strategic location in the lap of Himalayas, the place serves as an entry point to inner Himalayas and due to its proximity to other popular tourist destinations like Uttarakashi, Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Chamba will soon acquire an important place in the tourist map
