ITINERARY

Day 01:

The kick start of this most awaited Leh-Ladakh trip is from the Leh airport. The Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is the 22nd highest airport in the world located at about 3,256 m (10,682 ft) above the sea level. The feel of the trip starts with the sensational view of Leh while the aircraft lands. The long curvy roads on deserted lands, with gushing streams of river water sparsely spread over the hills and the distant white painted capes of mountains are not to be missed. The guiding team of the tour picks up the passengers from the Leh airport and provides a transit to the reserved accommodation. After check-in, the tourists are all recommended to rest-it-out as the body requires time to accustom itself to the high altitudes. Along with this acclimatization, a lot of hydration to the body is suggested.

Day 02:

Absorb the flavor of Leh with some refreshing breakfast, post which we wouldn’t be any hungrier as there is crispness in every frame of the Sham Valley. The first stop of the Ladakh tour would be the city of Likir which is the adobe for Likir Gompa and the farthest from Leh at 52Kms. The way back to Leh, has many more stops which Alchi Monastery being next. This is a 11th century monastery with wood-carvings and art-work comparable to baroque style.

Then third stop is at the Sangam – the confluence of Zanskar and Indus rivers which is followed by next stop at Magnetic hill. The optical illusion theory at the Magnetic hill shows the down slope of the road appears to be upward slope making it look gravity defying. The upcoming religious site is the Pathar Sahib Gurudwara which is constructed in memory of Guru Nanak Dev.

Day 03:

Completing breakfast in Leh, it’s now time to see the World’s Highest Motorable Road, which is none other than Khardong La Pass which is at a unimaginable height of 18,380 feet above the sea level. Passing through this, the nature paves its way into the, once eastern Tibetan trading route, the Nubra Valley. The Nubra Valley is surrounded by the Himalayan ranges with breath-taking visuals of prayer-flag topped peaks with snow all-round the year. The Sand Dunes between the towns of Diskit and Hundur is a vast dessert but the best place to have the local Ladakhi cuisine by the road-side cafes.

The Camel Safari is a must near the Diskit town as the camels here are double humped and are found only in Ladakh and Mongolia. The day ends in the Nubra Valley in the reserved accommodation.

Day 04:

After breakfast on day four, the journey starts toward the Pangong lake at 14,500 feet above the sea level. After reaching Pangong Lake, we check into the mesmerizing camp along the lake side to see the wonderful shades of blue shown by the lake whose color changes almost every hour. The day comes to an end with the sun-set view near the retiring camp surrounded by the grey and brown mountain range.

Day 05:

The day begins with a lovely walk and a picturesque sun-sun by the lake-side and after breakfast the journey back to Leh starts. Never miss to catch a sight of the rainbow in the morning above your tent, the simple breakfast on the lakefront. En route to Leh, the famous Tibetan Buddhist Thiksey Monastery locates at 11,800 feet about sea level is visited. It is 12-story complex which consists of Buddhist stupas, statues and thangkas, along with a 46 feet tall statue of Maitreya which is 2-story high of the building.

This is followed by the Shey Palace and the monastery. This is famous for the 39-foot-tall Shakyamuni Buddha, covering over 3-floors of the building. Finally we rest it out at Leh.

Day 06:

This day completely is dedicated for the local city tour of Leh which initiates with a Peace Pagoda – the Shanti Stupa. This is located at a 5 kms distance from Leh, on a hill facing the Leh Palace. Absorbing the peace and harmony form the Buddhist Dharmachakra, we move ahead to witness the grandeur of the Tibetan architecture of the Leh palace. Later in the afternoon the tourists can spend at the Leh market, which is the best place to pick some Tibetan crafted souvenirs. This completes the Leh-Ladakh Road Trip leaving the evening at your disposal to feel the vibe of the Leh city.

Day 07:

The passengers are provided with transport early in the morning to get back to the Leh airport and wave a “Salut!” to the astounding Leh-Ladakh touring.

HOW TO REACH

By Air – Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh is the nearest airport, which is in Leh town. It is the most convenient way to reach Leh. There are a number of flights from Delhi to Leh.

By Railway – Jammu Tawi Railway Station is the nearest rail-head, which is 850 Km from Leh. An excellent rail network connects Jammu Tawi to other important cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. You have to get taxi and drive to Leh via Srinagar or Keylong. But since these routes are close in winter you can’t visit Leh during winters via road.

By Road – Planning Delhi as a base for your Ladakh bike trip, Srinagar to Leh and Manali to Leh will be the two chief paths offering the very best street conditions and scenic views.
