Travel and Tourism in India
Ladakh is situated in the shadow of the Majestic Himalaya Mountains and is the highest inhabited region in the world. In fact it is so high that it is emerging as one of the world’s centers for cutting edge astronomy, with the world’s National Large Solar Telescope (NLST) is being set up in Pangong Tso Lake Merak by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India.
What To Expect During Leh-Ladakh Holidays
The capital of Ladakh is the city of Leh, which lies near the eastern borers of Jammu and Kashmir, at the crossroads of the historic Silk Route. Nepal is about the best place in the world for independent travel, and offers many trekking trails where one can visit the countryside in a different way and enjoy the stoic slow pace of the people there while enjoying some of the best vistas on this planet.
The Destinations
Some of the most popular and best places to visit in Ladakh are the Tso Moriri fresh water lake, which is a short journey from Leh, and you will enjoy the change in the countryside from rugged to lush green land full of vegetation. Stop off and take a dip in the hot spring on the way and spend some time in one of the beautiful guest houses on the lake. The Royal Palace of Leh offers a grand panoramic view of the town and surrounding areas and its museum has some very rare displays of ceremonial crowns, dresses, jewelries, ornaments and more and is definitely worth a visit. Magnetic hill or gravity hill as it is also known, is a natural phenomenon where vehicles get pulled uphill with the ignition switched off and is a really weird experience.
There are many monasteries such as Alchi, Lamayuru, Shey Palace, Diskit, Hemis, and Thiksey, which offer some wonderful views, statue, shrines and stupas, and collections of wall paintings, murals, thangkas and scriptures.
The Festivals
As with everywhere in India, there are many festivals in Ladakh, the most important being: The Hemis Festival which is a 2-day festival at the Hemis monastery and includes masked dances to the accompaniment of longhorns, cymbals and drums. The Losar Festival heralds the end of the harvesting season and is a mixture of Buddhist and pre-Buddhist religious practices. The Ladakh Festival is a 7-day Festival held before the onset of winter and processions, traditional dances like the lion dances and yak dances, and plenty of locally made barley beers are the norm. Polo matches, white-water river rafting, Archery, and treks are organized throughout the duration of the festival.
The Activities
Ladakh offers some unique adventures in mountaineering, trekking, and white water rafting. There are short, day-long treks to long, trans-mountain treks that involve weeks of hiking and camping in the wilderness. We have daily departures to Leh-Ladakh (India) from several international places (Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Saudi Arabia, England, United Kingdom (UK), United States (USA), Australia, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Brazil, Qatar, Philippines, Ireland.
