Travel and Tourism in India
Yamunotri Yatra is the beginning of the Char Dham Yatra, which is considered to be the holiest pilgrim for Hindus. A vast majority of Hindus believe that a visit to the Char Dhams is essential to get rid of the cycle of life and death and attain moksha. It is located about 3293 meters above sea level and is hence open only from May to October. The winters are extremely cold and massive snowfall cuts off the region from the rest of the world. Various Yamunotri tours are popular with people with different requirements and different budgets.
A tour to Yamunotri is organized by a vast variety of travel agents and tour operators. This is the place from there the River Yamuna originates and hence the mythological significance. The fact is that this is one of the most beautiful places in the country and is hence visited by a large number of tourists from all over the world and not just Hindus from the northern part of India.
A Yamunotri pilgrimage tour involves a visit to Yamunotri, a place that is believed to be the home of Asit Muni. This hermitage had a bath in both the Yamuna and the Ganga each and every day. Due to old age, he was not able to go to Gangotri and it was them that a stream of the Ganges appeared in front of him. A temple was built at the very place, which opens on Akshaya Tritiya, usually towards the last week of April or early May and closes on Diwali in mid-October. Once the temple has been closed, the temple staff returns to their villages and the entire region is covered with snow. Not even a single person can reach this place during the winters and the priests and the staff return when the snow melts in April. They are ready to welcome the millions of visitors when the temple doors open.
Various Yamunotri tours include travel either by air, rail or by road. The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant and the nearest railway station is Rishikesh. There are options for people with different budgets and different requirements. All you need to do is to search the internet and find the option that is best suited to your requirements and budget. Certain Yamunotri tour packages include just the accommodation while others include the to and for travel, accommodation as well as darshan. Some packages also include a helicopter ride that allows you to complete the darshan in a relatively short duration of time.
The best time to visit Yamunotri is during May, June, September and October. July and August experience a lot of rainfall while the months from November to April experience extreme winters. This is the time of the year when a large number of devotees and tourists throng this temple town and hence it is important to make a reservation in advance so as to get a confirmed booking and also save money in the long run.
